Volunteers ramp up recycling effort

Volunteer groups from Anchorage are helping to expand recycling opportunities in Chugiak-Eagle River by creating a monthly drop-off site for materials not currently accepted in the area. But the plan is only temporary unless some locals can be found to take over the job.


Chugiak council worried about Fred Meyer

Chugiak Community Council members are worried about plans for a Fred Meyer store in town. The issue for the council is that increased highway traffic will create safety hazards — particularly on the multi-use path leading to Fire Lake Elementary.


Chugiak pool to close

Construction work at Chugiak High will create a closure of the pool beginning June 8, 2002. The pool is not expected to re-open until mid-August, according to the Chugiak-Eagle River Parks and Recreation Department.
