JBER solider dies due to injuries
A USARAK Soldier died the evening of Feb. 11 from injuries sustained Feb. 7 at his home on JBER.
Sgt. Okan Murat Cetinbag, 24, an infantryman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, was removed from life support and pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. by medical personnel at Providence Alaska Medical Center with his family in attendance.
The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation by special agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.
Details of the injuries Cetinbag sustained at his home and the cause and manner of death are not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigative process.
Cetinbag, of Morton Grove, Ill., joined the Army in January 2013, attended basic and airborne training at Fort Benning, Ga. He arrived in Alaska in June 2013.
He had previously served with the U.S. Marine Corps, including a combat tour in Afghanistan in 2010.
