Go, Jim, go
Big woofs of good luck to long-time musher Jim Lanier, 73, who sets off on the ceremonial Iditarod Trail Saturday morning and the real trail Sunday.
Lanier has entered and completed a whooping 16 Iditarod competitions.
In all those years he’s never scratched, and his goal is to race six consecutive decades.
“After that, who knows? Health aside, it’s a matter of continued enjoyment of the dreaming, the planning, the training and the supports of family, friends and sponsors,” he said on the Official Iditarod Sled Dog Race Website.
Lanier’s white dogs are his signature. His wife, Anna Bondarenko, was the first Russian woman to enter and complete the Iditarod.
Lanier is the father of four and grandfather of five. His hobbies include singing, hunting, commercial fishing, reading, writing and raising kids.
He’s also the author of “Beyond Ophir.”
