The Chugiak Community Club was a small group of early residents that met in February 1947 to decide on a name for their community and to get organized into a group that could oversee activities in their area.
The following is a copy of the minutes from a meeting of this group as reported by Darlene Robinson on Sept. 15, 1950.
“The meeting was called to order by the secretary in the absence of the president. The minutes were read and approved.
Capt. Voyles was appointed to represent the club at the electrical meetings at the last electrical meeting. Construction on the Chugiak school started yesterday.
Vern Haik, Ronnie Wyatt, Gil Rosenberg, Marie Rosenberg and Gib Reid worked on the club building with the majority of the work done by Vern Haik.
A dance for Halloween was discussed, either at Butte Hall or the Community Club. Vern Haik motioned a dance and box social be held. Motion seconded and approved. A box will be needed to enter the dance. Each woman that can will bring two boxes and the extra one will be held at the entrance to sell to people that don’t bring a box. Bobby Media, Gil and Marie Rosenberg, Dotty Fetrow, Bruce and Darlence Robinson and Vern Haik are on the dance committee with Vern Haik the chairman.
Marie’s brother George Ondola and George Walker are in the hospital. Bobby, the chairman of the welfare committee, will see that they get flowers.
