Teen rescued after falling 30 feet

Nine units responded to an accident out by Thunderbird Falls, where a teen fell off an embankment to the water’s edge.

The Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department rescued a teen from the Thunderbird Falls area early in the evening of March 15.

According to CVFD public information officer David Eastman, the department was dispatched to Thunderbird Falls at 5:45 p.m.

Nine units responded to the aid of a 14-year-old girl who had fallen approximately 30 feet from a cliff near Thunderbird Falls to the water’s edge.

Two military personnel near the area heard her scream as she fell and made the 911 call.

CVFD, with the assistance of Alaska Pacific University Ice Climbing Club, extricated the teen from where she fell and transported her to an Anchorage hospital.

The teen was reported in stable condition.
