School district reaches agreement
The Anchorage School District and Alaska Laborers Local 71 reached a tentative agreement last week on a three-year contract that extends through June 30, 2017. The current contract, which covers approximately 325 custodial and building plant operator employees, expires on June 30.
Local 71 members ratified the contract proposal following a vote on March 22.
“We believe that we’ve negotiated a contract that strikes a balance of fair wages and benefits and that recognizes and appreciates the work our members do on behalf of ASD,” said Dennis Moen, business manager for Alaska Laborers Local 71.
The tentative agreement includes the following highlights:
Salary increases—1 percent in each year and a $500 bonus in years one and two; and district health insurance contributions—$75 increase in year one, no increase in year two and $40 increase in year three.
The proposed salary and benefit increases are in line with other negotiated contracts for ASD employees.
Negotiations for a new contract began earlier this month. The proposed contract will be presented to the school board for final approval on April 7.
