Chugiak boys win, girls second in FroshSoph track meet
The Mustang boys team won the annual Frosh-Sop meet, held May 10, at South Anchorage High. The girls placed second.
Mustang coach Melissa Hall said the victory was largely due in part to a sweep in the majority of the relays and to first-place performances by John Weaver, in the 400m; Dillon Pratt, the100m; and Roan Hall, the 3200m.
The girls went into the second day in first place, thanks to freshmen Cerina Bush and Kassidy Murphin in the jumps.
Hall said the team lacked overall depth, sliding into second place, due to insufficient numbers in the relays.
“It was a great showing for our underclassmen and gives a sneak preview of the years to come. We have a lot of talent brewing and I’m excited to see what the kids can bring at regions and state,” she added.
The Mustangs will bring their four classes together in a combined effort this week as they take part in the Region IV Championships Friday and Saturday at Dimond. The ASAA State meet is slated for May 23-24 at the same venue.
