Eagle River Christian High places first among boys

Girls close behind in second in ACSAA State Track Meet

The Eagle River Christian Eagles High School track teams garnered first and second place finishes among their boys and girls squads respectively, during the Alaska Christian Schools Athletic Association State Meet held at Wasilla High May 3.

Coached by Sue Wheeler, the Eagles won their first title in recent years. Seven schools took part.

Kelsi Barney won the only individual title for the Eagles, claiming both girls shot put and discus; while Brandon Cramer won the same event in the Elementary boys division.

The high school boys squad consisted of five point contributors, led by three third-place showings by Hunter Barndt in the long, triple and high jumps, along with two thirds and a fourth from Josh Oscar in the 100m, 200m and triple.

Bolstering Barney’s points on the girl’s side was a pair for second-places finishes by Samantha Taylor in shot and discus. She was fourth in the 200m, fifth in the 100m, as well.

The school’s complete result in the meet were as follows:

Elementary boys: Michael Boudreau, 6th, 1600m; 400m relay, 4th; B. Cramer, 1st, shot; Cramer, 3rd, discus; 1,600m relay, 2nd; Elementary girls: AJ Evans, 3rd, 1,600m; Ashleigh Harris, 3rd, triple jump; Evans, 6th, 800m; Helena Radford, 6th, triple jump; 400m relay, 3rd; 1,600m relay, 3rd.

High School Boys: 1st place overeall; Josh Oscar, 3rd, 100m; Jacob Harris, 4th, 100m; Jo. Oscar, 3rd, 200m; Ben Constantino, 5th, 400m; Max Walters, 4th, 800m; Allen Oscar, 5th, 800m; Barndt, 3rd, long jump; Walters, 3rd, 1,600m, Barndt, 3rd, long jump; Barndt, 3rd, triple jump; Jo.
