Anchorage police dog tracks down juvenile suspects

An Anchorage Police Department K-9 partner recently made headlines after apprehending suspects at an Anchorage store.

According to APD, it went down like this: On July 31, Officer Evans was patrolling the area of Tudor Road near Eau Clair Place when he noticed several subjects running across Tudor Road. At the same time, he heard an audible alarm coming from the Tudor Smoke Shop.

He and his K-9 partner Jimmy Lee, with the help of other officers, started after the subjects.

One was caught in the nearby vicinity, and Evans and Jimmy Lee began searching for the others. One was discovered in the bushes, and Jimmy Lee tracked the other three to a shed, where they were found hiding inside.

All five of the 14 to 15-year-old juveniles were taken into custody, and charges for Burglary 2 and Criminal Mischief have been referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“This incident helps illustrate the value of our K-9 teams in serving and protecting our community,” APD said in a press release.
