Man charged in Mile High Road murder

Anchorage police arrested and charged 32-year-old James Andrew Baker with murder, attempted murder and assault in connection with the multiple shooting in Eagle River early Monday morning.

Anchorage Police Department reports Baker was parked in his vehicle near the top of Mile High Road in Eagle River with five other occupants when, “for an undetermined reason, Baker produced a firearm and started firing at the occupants inside of the vehicle.” June Mary McCarr, 56, was found deceased inside the vehicle by police. Next of kin have been notified. Roy Boswell, 24, and Kurtis Reed, 31, were struck by bullets and transported to the hospital. Both are in stable condition.

Police report they believe Baker might have been picked up by someone by Eagle River Road around 6:30 a.m. that morning, on March 9, then dropped off at the Tesoro Gas Station at 12139 Old Glenn Highway. According to police, the driver’s vehicle was described as “possibly a newer model dark red or maroon SUV.”

APD reports it hopes to make contact with the driver and asks the person to call 786-8900 and press “0” to speak with a dispatcher who could connect them to a detective.
