Chugiak takes second at Region IV; Lowe, Amico win titles

A pair of local wrestlers claimed Region IV titles last weekend and Chugiak High School took second in the team standings behind powerhouse South Anchorage High.

Brandon Lowe of Chugiak won the Region IV title at 170 pounds and Marcus Amico of Eagle River High won at 152 pounds.

Poised to capture the state team title when Chugiak hosts the championships this weekend, South took 10 individual titles en route to racking up 450 points to easily outdistance Chugiak’s 237.

Eagle River finished eighth in the Region IV with 137 points.

Chugiak had several wrestlers who battled through the bracket to take third place finishes, including Nathan Stoltenberg (106 pounds), Frank Zellers (145 pounds), Jacob Butler (152 pounds), Max Ditzler (160 pounds) and Toren Cheely (182 pounds).

Other top finishers for Eagle River included Austin Kraft, who took runner-up honors at 113 pounds and Grant Burningham third at 138 pounds. In girls wrestling, Talyah Carlton of Eagle River won the title at 106 pounds.
