Bobbi Mason’s Chugiak Mustang volleyball teams produced two days of extra effort last week to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

Wednesday’s silent auction ran in conjunction with a volleyball match with South, and Thursday’s fun run attracted about 50 participants, beginning and ending at Healthwise Physical Therapy, a partner in the effort.

More than $1,000 was raised, mostly through the auction via donations from local businesses intended for the Alliance for Cancer Care Center, according to head coach Bobbi Mason. Volleyball parents were enlisted to gather the donations for the auction, she said.

Pink hair ties, pink ribbons were worn by many at the match and team members threw pink t-shirts into the crowd.

At Thursday’s run, the color coordinaton continued, most notably with a lovely pink tutu, socks and headband worn by JV Coach Jason Smedley.

Donations at that event were rewarded with Mustangs volleyball t-shirts.

“That was a great event, it’s a neat outreach, and Healthwise has been a great partner,” Mason added.
