Eagle River woman killed in Parks Highway rollover
A 31-year-old Eagle River woman died Thursday, Jan. 5 when the pick-up truck she was driving crashed about six miles north of Trapper Creek along the Parks Highway.
According to Alaska State Troopers, Karen Benjamin was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 southbound on the highway near mile 120.5 at around 3:47 p.m. when the truck slipped on icy roads, crossed the roadway and rolled onto its roof. Benjamin was wearing a seat belt but did not survive the crash.
Two passengers, 59-year-old Larry Benjamin and 61-year-old Katherine Benjamin, both of Mississippi, were transported to local hospitals. Troopers said Larry Benjamin was transported by EMS to Mat-Su Regional Hospital and Katherine Benjamin was taken by helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
Next of kin have been notified.
