Chugiak’s girls basketball team continued its solid start to the season with a 74-37 Cook Inlet Conference win over Eagle River on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Chugiak High.
All eight players who dressed for the Mustangs scored. Chasity Selden pumped in a game-high 23, Nicole Pinckney added 15, Ashlyn Burgess finished with 11, Layla Beam had eight, followed by Courtney Kuhlman (7), Randi McMullen and Eva Palmer (4 each) and Kassidy Murfin (2).

The game was the first CIC battle for both teams, but the Mustangs have been busy in the early season, going 4-2 on a recent trip to Las Vegas.

Pinckney, a senior, was honored after the game for surpassing 1,000 points for her Chugiak career. The UAA-bound co-captain surpassed the milestone while in Vegas.

On Tuesday, the Mustangs led throughout, building a 37-20 halftime lead and cruising down the stretch.

Chyna Finly starred in the loss for Eagle River, scoring a team-high 19 points, including all nine of her team’s points in the third quarter. Lauryn Green added seven for the Wolves, who got four each from Shade Gopie and Saray Willis and three from Ky Henderson.

Chugiak hosts Barrow at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 and travels to Service for a Jan. 17 conference game at 6 p.m.
