Foggy conditions persist
The Anchorage Office of Emergency Management extended its dense fog advisory for the Anchorage area through 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
According to the advisory, the fog — which has persisted over the Anchorage Bowl and up the Knik River Valley during much of a recent cold snap in the area — will continue to create low visibility and difficult driving conditions.
On Thursday afternoon, a thick blanket of fog hung over much of the Glenn Highway between Anchorage and Eagle River, covered most of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and also parts of the Glenn near Chugiak, Eklutna and the Palmer Hay Flats. Despite the surrounding fog layer, most of Eagle River to the north of the Glenn was bathed in bright sunshine Thursday. A temperature inversion was place, with drive around the area finding unofficial temperatures ranging from 13 below zero at the Eagle River Nature Center in the Eagle River Valley to 18 above at the top of Skyline Drive near Mount Baldy.
