Chugiak’s girls basketball team has vaulted to No. 1 in the most recent Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The Mustangs were ranked fourth in last week’s poll, but the team defeated previous No. 1 Wasilla and No. 2 Dimond on back-to-back days to win the Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout tournament over the weekend.

The Chugiak boys also got some love from the voters, moving into the No. 5 spot in the polls, the first time the Mustangs have been ranked this season.

Both teams return to Cook Inlet Conference play Thursday, Feb. 16. The top-ranked Lady Mustangs will host Service at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow at 7:30.
