POLICE BRIEFS: April 20, 2017

FORGERY

On April 12 at around 6 p.m., police obtained a $1,000 felony arrest warrant for Alexandra R. Reynolds, 32, address unknown, for second-degree forgery after she allegedly tried to cash a forged check at Walmart. The check belonged to the business Pie by Fire, which had previously reported a theft of its checks. As of Tuesday, Reynolds was not in custody.

TRESPASSING

On April 14 at around 8:15 p.m., the owner of an apartment on Ashley Park Lane found Jennifer N. Halterman, 27, of Anchorage, was allegedly living illegally in an apartment she did not have permission to be in. Police said Halterman had previously been evicted from another apartment in the same complex. She was cited for trespassing.

DUI

On April 16 at around 12:54 a.m., police stopped a vehicle that was allegedly failing to maintain its lane on the Glenn Highway. Police said an open beer can was found inside the vehicle. The driver, Oscar K. Kawagley, 49, of Anchorage, was arrested for operating under the influence and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

ASSAULT

On April 16 at around 5 a.m., police received a report that Sheila M. Ellis, 20, of Eagle River had been yelling at other occupants in a house, kicking holes in the wall and causing other damage to the home. Ellis was gone by the time officers arrived, and a warrant was issued for her arrest on assault and criminal mischief charges.

BURGLARY

On April 16 at around 11 a.m., police took a report from a homeowner on Chandelle Drive in Chugiak reporting items had been stolen from their home. Police believe the thief gained entry through a doggie door. The case remains under investigation.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On April 17, police took a report that a 1988 Honda Civic had been stolen while parked outside the owner’s workplace on Eagle River Loop. Alaska State Troopers recovered the car later in the day.

BURGLARY

On April 12 at around 9 a.m., police received a report that someone broke into Dakota Diggers in Chugiak via a side door. Nothing appeared to be stolen and the case is under investigation.

ELUDING

On April 11 at around 7 a.m., an officer tried to stop a red Dodge Ram that was speeding on the Glenn Highway near Hiland Road. The officer reported the vehicle accelerated after the officer turned on his lights and sirens. The officer broke off the chase due to the danger involved with a high-speed pursuit. The case remains under investigation.
