Chugiak, Eagle River drop opening-round games at CIC softball tournament
Chugiak and Eagle River want to make the state softball tournament, they’ll have to do it the hard way.
Both the Mustangs and Wolves lost their opening-round games Tuesday at the Cook Inlet Conference tournament, falling into the loser’s bracket. On Tuesday, fourth seed Chugiak took a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning against No. 5 Service before surrendering 10 runs over the final three frames in a 10-5 loss at the Albrecht Fields in Anchorage. Abby Stewart went 2-for-4 to lead Chugiak, which was scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Albrecht.
Eagle River’s opening round was much more brief, as the seventh-seeded Wolves were no-hit by No. 2 seed Dimond in an 8-0 first-round loss. The Wolves were scheduled to play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Winners of Wednesday’s loser’s bracket games advanced to play Thursday; losers were eliminated.
