Local golfer 5th at U.S. Open qualifier in Palmer
Eagle River golfer Michael Oldenkamp finished fifth out of 10 players who entered the U.S. Open local qualifier on Wednesday, May 17 at Palmer Golf Course.
Oldenkamp shot a 77 to finish 10 shots behind winner Leon Horacio, a Chilean who now makes his home in Jupiter, Florida.
Horacio shot a bogey free round of 67 and was the only golfer in the field to shoot under par during the 18-hole qualifier. By winning the event, Horacio qualified to play in the sectional qualifier next month in Washington, where he’ll play for a spot in the U.S. Open.
