POLICE BRIEFS: Woman charged with assault on police officer

OUI

On Aug. 1 at around 6:48 p.m. police received a call about a vehicle weaving and narrowly missing other vehicles on the Glenn Highway. Officers located the driver, Shauna L. Cranford, 32, of Anchorage, and arrested her for operating under the influence. During the arrest, Cranford was allegedly uncooperative and combative with officers. According to police, Cranford struggled with them, kicked the cage inside the back of the patrol car and had to be placed in leg restraints at the jail. Police said Cranford also asked for a phone to call a lawyer, which she allegedly used to strike an officer. Cranford was additionally charged with assault on a police officer.

MISCHIEF

On Aug. 2 at around 2:01 a.m., police received a call that a male was in the Fred Meyer parking lot trying to siphon gas from a vehicle. Police later located the suspect, 31-year-old Seth Kaufman of Eagle River, for criminal mischief and vehicle tampering.

BURGLARY

On Aug. 2 at around 2:41 p.m., police received a report that an unknown suspect had entered a home on South Birchwood Loop and stolen electronics while the residents were out of town.

VANDALISM

On Aug. 2 at around 5:08 p.m., police received a report from a resident of McKinley View Avenue who said someone cut the fuel line to a boat motor and unsuccessfully tried to steal the motor, causing some damage.

FRAUD

On Aug. 2 at around 5:58 p.m., police officers were called to First National Bank in Eagle River for a report that someone was trying to cash a check that was previously reported stolen. Officers contacted the woman but no immediate arrest was made; an investigation is ongoing.

ASSAULT

On Aug. 2 at around 11:53 p.m., police were called to a residence on Stuart Circle for a report that an intoxicated woman attacked her husband when he arrived home. Police said the man barricaded himself inside a room to avoid his wife and called the police. The woman, 57-year-old Judy Kott, of Eagle River, allegedly damaged the home while trying to get through the barricade; she was arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief.

OUI

On Aug. 6 at around 4:19 a.m., police received a call that a vehicle was driving dangerously on the Glenn Highway. A police officer located the vehicle and, after allegedly witnessing it do 80 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, arrested driver Jesse R. Hobart, 30, of Wasilla, for operating under the influence.

BURGLARY

On Aug. 6 at around 11 p.m., police took a report that items were stolen from an unoccupied camper parked on private property near Birchwood Loop. There were no signs of forced entry.

ASSAULT

On Aug. 7 at around 4:18 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault on Monte Road and arrested Lloyd E. Gailey, 81, after he allegedly got into a physical altercation with his roommate, who police said had visible injuries to her arm.
