Proffitt leads Chugiak to second-place finish in Soldotna
Chugiak sophomore Adrianna Proffitt edged Eagle River freshman Emily Walsh to claim the top finish among Chugiak-Eagle River runners at the Tsalteshi Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Tsalteshi Trails in Soldotna.
Proffitt finished the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 58 seconds, on of six runners to finish the hilly layout in under 20 minutes. Walsh was five seconds behind in seventh place.
The Chugiak girls placed second to Kenai Central in the team standings, while the Wolves were fifth. Kenai’s Addison Gibson won a three-way sprint to the finish over South’s Ava Earl and Service’s Grace Fahrney. Gibson and Earl clocked identical 19:33 times, with Fahrney one second behind. South’s Maggie Meeds finished fourth, followed by West’s Aubrey LeClair. The top seven runners were separated by 30 seconds.
Chugiak’s Emma Nelson was 13th, Brooklynn Gould finished 15th and Breanna Day finished 24th followed by Lindsey Gerlach and Gwendolyn Mueller, who each finished in 21:34.
Claire Nelson finished 25th for Eagle River, Kiara Sherman was 26th, Ashley Walsh was 39th and Bonnie Perkins finished 54th for the Wolves, who were fifth in the team standings.
In the boys race, Eagle River’s Nick Carl was the top local finisher in 13th place, completing the course in 16:54. Dimond’s Santiago Prosser won in 16:13.
Carl’s teammate Jacob Bradley finished 15th for the Wolves, who were ninth in the team standings. Other Eagle River finishers included Michael Maddox in 51st, with freshmen Karsten Senden and Alex Carl finishing 76th and 77th respectively.
Chugiak freshman Michael Earnhart led the Mustangs to a fifth-place finish in the team standings by placing 16th overall in 17:01. Earnhart was followed by Miles Dennis (25th), Liam Baez-Terry (29th), Max Beiergrohslein (31st) and Owen Lewis (66th).
Chugiak and Eagle River will participate in the Bartlett Invitational State Preview Meet on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.
