OUI

On Sept. 4 at around 3:21 a.m., police stopped a Dodge Journey for speeding on the Glenn Highway. The driver, Jerry Panik II, 37, of Anchorage, passed a field sobriety test, but it was determined he had a revoked license. The officer who pulled Panik over told him to get back into the vehicle and sit in the passenger seat. As the officer was walking toward his patrol car, the Dodge drove away. The officer pulled the vehicle over again and performed a field sobriety test on the new driver, Raymond H. Nashookpuk, 25, of Wainwright. Nashookpuk was subsequently arrested for operating under the influence. Panik was cited for speeding and driving while license revoked.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On Aug. 29 at around 8 a.m., police took a report that a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from the owner’s yard on White Birch Road. Police said there were no keys with the bike, which as of Tuesday, Sept. 5 had not been recovered.

ASSAULT

On Aug. 30 at around 3:24 p.m., police received a report of a physical altercation in a vehicle. According to police, driver Kevin Keech, 23, of Anchorage, allegedly struck a male adult passenger several times in the face, then threw the man’s cell phone out the window. Police said Keech stopped the vehicle, the victim got out, and Keech drove off. Keech was charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief.

BURGLARY?

On Aug. 31 at around 11:25 a.m., an APD officer arrived at a home on Breckenridge Drive to investigate a possible burglary. The officer found the front screen door bent and almost off its hinges, with the door knob lying on the ground. There were no signs the home had been entered or that anything was taken, police said. The officer was unable to determine if a burglar or the wind had damaged the door, as the knob was reportedly loose before it was discovered on the ground.

ASSAULT

On Sept. 1 at around 8:20 p.m., police were called to a location on Ninivak Circle for a report of an alleged altercation between a couple that happened in Anchorage. Officers spoke with one of the people at the residence and talked to the other over the phone. Both of the people were intoxicated, police said, and officers were unable to determine if a crime had taken place. No arrests were made.

BURGLARY

On Sept. 2 at around 6:39 p.m., officers responded to Grace Alliance Church on the Old Glenn Highway for a burglary at a cabin on church property. Officers found the cabin’s front door had been pried open and items were stolen from inside; the case is under investigation.

Officers found shell casings in the street and a bullet hole was found in the garage door frame of a nearby home. However, there were no injuries or eyewitnesses, and officers were unable to determine who fired the shots.

ASSAULT

On Sept. 3 at around 12:34 a.m., police responded to the Eagle River Carrs store for an adult female who had been assaulted in Anchorage. The woman told police she got into a fight with the father of her child, Travis R. Kelso, 26, of Anchorage, and that Kelso had punched her in the chest.

Kelso was charged with assault and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
