Chugiak, Eagle River swim/dive teams sweep
Chugiak earned a pair of swimming/diving wins Tuesday, Sept. 19 over Eagle River at the Chugiak Pool.
The Mustang girls won 107-63, while the Chugiak boys edged the Wolves 90-81.
Izzy Powers won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle for the Chugiak girls, who also got a double win from Addison Morgan in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. Jeremy Petrie won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke for the Chugiak boys, while Dam Horning (50 free, 100 free) was a double winner for the Eagle River boys.
Mustangs, Wolves make a big splash
Chugiak and Eagle River each swept swimming and diving meets on Friday, Sept. 15.
The Wolves easily splashed past Bartlett, with the girls taking a 119-8 win and the boys winning 87-56 on senior night for both teams. Daniel Min won the 50 yard freestyle and 100 breastroke for the Wolves, who also got a pair of wins from John Heaphy (100 fly, 100 breast). Also winning for the Eagle River boys were Kevin Fast (200 free), Sam Horning (200 IM), Braeden Werner (100 free) and Michael Farthing (500 free). The Eagle River girls got individual victories from Ellie Mercer (100 IM), Monica Fast (500 free) and Katherine Horning (100 back).
Chugiak’s wins over Service were closer, with the Mustangs winning defeateing the Service boys 93-87 and the girls winning 103-69. Birthday girl Cheyenne Burke led the Chugiak girls with wins in both the 200 yard freestyle and 200 individual medley. Burke also swam a leg on the girls’ winning 200 medley relay. Other individual winners for the Chugiak girls included Shelby Thompson (50 free), Leslie Cockreham (100 fly), Addison Morgan (100 free), Izzy Powers (500 free) and Victoria Slaven (100 breaststroke). Boys individual winners included Dalton Lodzins (200 IM), Reid Blackstone (50 free), Gabe Dobson (diving) and Zach Cole (100 free).
Chugiak and Eagle River will square off on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Chugiak High pool.
