Mustangs Brewer, Priest go 2-3 at Equinox Marathon
The Chugiak High cross country running program was well represented at the Equinox Marathon on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Fairbanks.
Former Mustang standout Kenny Brewer, 25, finished the grueling marathon in second place, while current Chugiak head cross country running and skiing coach Cody Priest, a 29-year-old who lives in Anchorage, finished third.
Anchorage’s Allan Spangler won the 55th annual race in 2 hours, 52 minutes, 31 seconds to beat Brewer by about four minutes. Priest was 11 seconds behind Brewer, who graduated from Chugiak in 2011 before going on to ski and run at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Priest, a Palmer High grad, also ran and skiied at UAF.
Eagle River’s Kacy Stille was the top local female racer, finishing 15th among women and 72nd overall in the 26.2-mile race, which includes 3,285 feet of elevation gain.
