The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks broke out of their summer slump with back-to-back wins coming out of the Alaska Baseball League all-star break.

The Chinooks knocked off the Anchorage Bucs 5-1 on Monday at Lee Jordan Field, then took out the first-place Mat-Su Miners 7-5, also in Chugiak. The wins snapped a four-game losing streak for the Chinooks, who slipped into last place in the five-team ABL after dropping nine of 11 games dating back to June 30.

Anthony Forte and Jerron Largusa had two hits each against the Bucs and Honus Kindreich threw four innings of two-hit relief to earn his third win of the season. Kindreich also lowered his ERA to 1.97 this season, good enough for fifth in the ABL.

Against the Miners, Forte went 4-for-5 and Danny Dopp drove in two runs as the Chinooks improved to 14-20. Starter Jared Reklaitis went six innings to earn his second win in eight starts this summer.

10 Chinooks make all-star team

Ten Chinooks were named to the Alaska Baseball League’s All-Star Game, which was played July 15 at Mulcahy Stadium. Making the team were Chugiak-Eagle River pitchers Andrew Almquist, Honus Kindreich, Jared Reklaitis, River Carbone, Cole Whitman and Sam Brace; as well as infielder Jordan Wharton, catcher J. Paul Fullerton and outfielders Bailey Collins and Anthony Forte. Collins also participated in the league’s homerun derby, which was won by Ryan Cook of the Peninsula Oilers.
