PREPS: Flag football teams fall, Chugiak tennis nets victory

FLAG FOOTBALL

Mustangs, Wolves drop CIC home games

Chugiak got an 80-yard touchdown run from Chasity Horn, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 13-0 halftime deficit as East took a 20-7 Cook Inlet Conference flag football win over the Mustangs at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium on Wednesday.

Jessica Titzel had two touchdowns for the T-birds, who scored twice in the final two minutes of the first half. Chugiak’s next game is at South at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

At Eagle River, Kamryn Perry and Nicole Bedwell ran for touchdowns in Eagle River’s 36-14 loss to Service. Clare Porter added a two-point conversion for the Wolves, who host Dimond for Homecoming on Saturday at noon.

TENNIS

Mustangs ground T-birds

Chugiak got wins in two of three contested matches and picked up six wins by default in an 8-1 Cook Inlet Conference tennis victory over East on Wednesday at Chugiak.

Chugiak’s boys doubles team of Jared Elison and Ian Judd won 6-0, 6-1 over Howard Wang and Ryan Parks, while Emilee Groth didn’t drop a game in her girls singles win over Jayla Jordan. Chugiak’s lone loss game in boys singles, where Riley Fugere came up just short against David Columbus, who won 10-5 in a tiebreaker.

At Begich Middle School, Eagle River swept the boys doubles matches in a 7-2 loss to Bartlett. The Wolves’ Sterling Retzlaff and Chase McGraw won 6-0, 6-0 over Yeling Thao and Trey Suber, while Taiten Cogswell and Stefan Retzlaff took out Ben Roberts and Mong Kong Her 6-0, 6-2. Eagle River’s Alex White lost the day’s closest match, falling 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker.
