Students busted for smoking pot

On Aug. 28 at around 10:45 a.m., a school resource officer at Chugiak High School walked through a foot tunnel on the school grounds where police said students “are known to hang out during lunchtime.”

“The SRO surprised four students, some of whom were smoking marijuana,” police wrote in an account of the incident.

The officer brought the four back to the school and charges against two of them were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Citizen calls lead to multiple impaired driving arrests

On Aug. 29 at around 6:17 p.m., police received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) call about a vehicle that was parked on Eleonora Street that appeared to have an intoxicated driver. Police arrived and blocked the vehicle in a driveway, at which point they said the woman driving — later identified as Susan L. Gregory, 50, of Eagle River — refused to get out. Police said an officer reached into the vehicle and moved the seat back, at which point Gregory got out and was arrested for operating under the influence.

On Aug. 31 at around 9 p.m., police received a call about a blue Ford Explorer passing dangerously on the Glenn Highway near Birchwood Loop. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested driver David J. Tremko, 52, of Slana for operating under the influence.

On Sept. 1 at around 11:54 p.m., police received a report of a Chevy Silverado swerving on the Glenn Highway near Birchwood Loop and arrested driver Joshua D. E. Cooper, 25, of Eagle River for operating under the influence.

On Sept. 2 at around 9:30 p.m., police received a report that a white Tahoe was swerving on the Glenn Highway near South Birchwood Loop. Officers pulled the vehicle over and arrested Nick Mejia, 36, of Wasilla for operating under the influence.

Family violence reported

On Sept. 1 at around 5:30 a.m., police were called for a report that a teen had punched a family member in the face at a residence on Sarah Circle. Police said charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Assault reported

On Aug. 29 at around 3:30 a.m., police received a report that Genevie Patrick, 30, of Eagle River slapped a family member in the face several times following a verbal altercation at a residence on Third Street. Police said a second adult intervened and was struck in the face by Patrick. Police arrived and took Patrick to the Anchorage Jail on a charge of fourth-degree assault.
