Woman killed in Glenn Highway crash
UPDATE: The highway was reopned in both directions shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The Glenn Highway was closed in both directions after a vehicle struck and killed a woman Tuesday afternoon.
According to an Anchorage Police Department Nixle alert, at around 4:07 p.m. police responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash. According to police, two vehicles collided and ended up in the center median.
“Both drivers exited their respective cars and began walking towards the edge of the highway when a third vehicle lost control, entered the center median, and struck one of the drivers of the original crash,” police wrote.
Police said passers-by performed CPR on the woman, but she was declared dead by medics.
Police said inbound and outbound traffic is being diverted arond the scene via the South Birchwood on- and off-ramps.
“Traffic in both directions is able to get back on the highway via the South Birchwood on-ramps,” police wrote.
APD said the highway will remain closed while officers investigate.
