Chugiak, Eagle River ski squads have strong afternoon at Bartlett relays
The Chugiak boys claimed three of the top nine spots at the Bartlett 2X2X2 cross country skiing relay races Wednesday at the Bartlett High trails.
Max Beiergrohslein and Michael Earnhart claimed third place in the A boys relay, in which each member of the two-person teams skied two relay legs. Earnhart’s overall time was the day’s fourth fastest behind West’s Maxime Germaine and the service duo of Eli Hermanson and Alex Maurer, who combined to win the boys relay. Germain and teammate Everett Cason were third.
Chugiak’s Konrad and Torsten Renner were fifth, with Miles Dennis and Michel Connelly taking ninth.
Eagle River’s top team of Carter Gladwill and Curtis Bay finished 17th out of 20 teams in the boys A races.
In the girls A race, Eagle River’s Helen Wilson and Emily Walsh was the top local team in fourth place behind three West High tandems. Wilson broke through the Eagles’ talonhold on the top podium spots, however, by placing second to West’s Quincy Donley in overall combined time. Donley and teammate Aubrey Leclair (who was third overall) won the race over the second-place team Annie Gonzales/Ellie Mitchell and third-place duo of Maja Lapkass/Natalie Hood.
Chugiak’s Brenna Day and Kali Smedley placed 15th to lead the Mustangs.
