ORIGINAL STORY:

Hiland Road was closed in both directions Thursday afternoon from its intersection with Eagle River Loop to about one mile up Hiland due to what police said was a suicidal man with a gun.

According to an Anchorage Police Department Nixle alert issued at 3:33 p.m., the road was closed as officers responded to the situation. Police offered no other immediate details but asked people to avoid the area.

Police briefly said the Glenn Higway was also closed at Hiland, but recinded that message minutes later and clarified it is only Hiland that’s closed.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
