Chugiak boys roll to soccer win over Wolves; girls game ends in a draw

Chugiak’s boys soccer team rolled to a big win Saturday over their crosstown rivals while the Eagle River girls forged a tie against theirs in a pair of Railbelt Conference matches at Ed Blahous Field at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium in Chugiak.

The Chugiak boys exploded for four goals in the second half after taking a 1-0 lead into the half on a penalty kick by Francis Wanek. Chugiak got second-half goals from Haruki Ono, Josh Rolston, Owen Lewis and Grant Jones, with Codey Riedel, Rolston, Wanek, James Frizelle and Michael Belmear picking up assists.

The win lifted the Mustangs to 1-1 in the Railbelt while Eagle River dropped to 0-3.

In the girls game, Chugiak took an early lead on a goal by Landri Johnson off an assist by Victoria Devine in the 17th minute, but the Wolves equalized on a 30-yard free kick by Sydney Swanson in the 61st to salvage the draw. Both teams improved to 0-1-1 in the Railbelt.
