Eagle River resident Ben Gordon died April 16, 2012 at home. He was 45.

Gordon was born June 10, 1966, in Salinas, California to Larry and Anita (Desiree) Gordon. On August 9, 2008, he married Dawn Michele Schultz, of Wasilla, in Eagle River. The couple met while ice fishing on Finger Lake in January 2007.

He attended ITT Technical Institute in San Bernardino, California, and earned a degree in electrical engineering. This prepared him for his eight-year stint as an electrical technician with the Motorola Corporation in Rockford, Illinois.

Gordon moved to Alaska in 2006 to be closer to his mother.

He was employed by the Salvation Army in Anchorage at the time of his death.

Gordon enjoyed fishing on the Kenai Peninsula for salmon and in Cook Inlet and Resurrection Bay for halibut. His other interests included clamming at Ninilchik, camping, playing canasta card games with his friends, talking politics and cooking. He was particularly fond of his constant canine companion, Georgie, a black lab/pitbull mix adopted from Anchorage Animal Control that he considered a member of his family.

His family said his favorite quotation was “Reputation is what others think of you. Character is how you truly are.”

His wife described Ben as “always willing to help others and able to entertain people with his antics and practical jokes.”

Gordon is survived by his wife, Dawn; his stepfather and mother, Dennis and Desiree Clark of Eagle River; sister, Twila Perry of Anchorage; stepbrother, Steve Clark of Kenai; two nieces; one nephew; and numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 22, at Kings Way Assembly of God Ministry Center in Eagle River. Gordon was cremated.
