When researching tattoo removal, Heidi Midyett heard countless horror stories involving scarring, blisters and extreme pain.

Then she found the Quanta Q Plus laser.

Midyett had a tattoo removed using this technology and has been an advocate of it since.

“It’s less painful and more effective,” she said. “You’re not going to have the scarring and blistering.”

Now, Midyett wants to give others the same treatment. Two weeks ago, she opened Lasercare Tattoo Removal in Eagle River.

Midyett, a former substitute teacher, was at a fashion show and noticed nearly every model was sporting some ink. (According to the Pew Research Center, about 40 percent of Americans ages 26 to 40 have at least one tattoo).

Seeing so many potential clients gave Midyett the idea to open her business.

Midyett said the pain of getting a tattoo was similar to having a one removed with the Quanta laser. Each session lasts just a matter of minutes, she said, and most tattoos are removed in three to eight treatments.

The laser works by fragmenting the ink into small pieces, Midyett said, which allows the body’s immune system to remove them.

Midyett isn’t against people marking their bodies.

“I like tattoos,” she said. “I’m not into eliminating all tattoos.”

But should someone want a fresh canvass, Midyett said she wants to offer a safe way to do that.

“If I can help people out and not scar them, I feel really good about that,” she said.

Midyett said she also works with tattoo artists to fade a client’s tattoo to make it easier for cover-up work.

A six-year Eagle River resident, Midyett said keeping her business local was essential.

While Midyett enjoys being her own boss, meeting different clients is another aspect of the business she likes.

“Every time someone comes in it’s a completely different story,” she said. “It’s always interesting.”

Lasercare Tattoo Removal is located at 16410 Brooks Loop in the same building as Vibe Salon and Day Spa. Midyett, who works by appointment only, can be reached at 907-903-1558. For more information about her business, visit www.lasercaretattooremoval.com.
