“Postage required”

Published:

From the Knik Arm Courier, May 18, 1960:

We wish to once more make mention of a matter which we have discussed in the past.

To those of you who bring news items and announcements to the post office to be placed in the COURIER box, please remember, they must be placed in an envelope with the proper amount of postage affixed.

Although Paul Swanson, our postmaster, is very happy to perform acts beyond the call of duty for the residents of Chugiak, he is prohibited by law to place anything in the post office boxes that has not complied with the post office regulations.

We realize that most persons are not aware of this and do not realize that by merely asking Paul to “put this in the COURIER box,” that unless they have mailed it properly he is unable to do this.

Information for the courier may either be phoned into HO-2-5275 or brought to the COURIER office at Mile 23.

Put please, if you leave it at the post office, mail it properly.

** In 1960, the Chugiak Post Office was located in the red frame building directly across the Old Glenn Highway from the old Chugiak Elementary School at Mile 19.
