Big event a community tradition
Get out your boots and spurs, because a western-themed Bear Paw is right around the corner.
The theme for this year’s annual community celebration is “Round-up at the Bear Paw Corral,” which Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber special events coordinator Merry Braham said should make for a stompin’ good time.
“People can practice their giddyup and ropin’ skills,” Braham said recently.
The festival runs July 10-14, with events all around town. As always, the main festival will take part on Business Boulevard downtown and in the Eagle River Town Square Park.
Braham said festival goers can again expect event favorites such as carnival rides, the Slippery Salmon Olympics, the Bear Paw 5K and the always-popular Bear Paw Parade, which is set for July 13.
But organizers will have a few tricks up their sleeves as well.
Among the changes, Braham said, is a seafood cook-off (replacing the salmon-only event of past years), a color maze and a planned western themed hoedown.
Braham said people interested in getting Bear Paw merchandise — including t-shirts or commemorative pins, can call her at the chamber at 694-4702.
