The Anchorage Police Department is reminding all citizens to lock their cars and remove valuables to prevent vehicle thefts. The initiative, “Lock, Remove, Conceal, So Thieves Don’t Steal,” is in response to a 40 percent increase in vehicle thefts from January to October 2013 compared to the same period last year, APD said in a press release.
Anchorage Police are seeking help from the public in locating an Eagle River man who was last seen by neighbors near his Hiland Road home about two weeks ago.
A woman died after she re-entered a burning house in Chugiak on Monday, Nov. 18, according to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department. The woman, who was not identified Monday, exited the home at 15813 South Birchwood Loop with two other occupants then re-entered, CVFD Chief Virginia McMichael said.
Counterfeit $20 and $100 bills have been circulating the Chugiak-Eagle River area. In the past two weeks, there have been 10 reports of phony money at a bank and multiple businesses around town, according to the Anchorage Police Department. Six of the reports were for counterfeit $20 bills. In four cases, the bills had the same serial number, which APD would not release.
