Jordan wins conference XC run title

During his middle school cross country running career, Ty Jordan saved his best performance for the final race of the season at Kincaid Park. That trend has followed him to high school. The Chugiak sophomore shaved more than 20 seconds off his previous best Kincaid time to win the boys race at the Cook Inlet Conference Championships on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Local swimmers, diver shine at Bartlett-Chugiak meet

Chugiak and Eagle River won a combined four relays and six individual events at the Bartlett-Chugiak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. Sammy Burke (100 fly, 500 free) and Emmie Jennings (200 IM, 100 free) earned two individual wins apiece for Chugiak’s girls. Burke and Jennings teamed up with Marissa Headrick and Abby Blackstone to win the 200 free relay.

Chugiak boys eye return trip to state

There’s no doubt in Tina McPhetres mind that Chugiak will send a boys team to the state cross country running meet. McPhetres said she’s fortunate to have a deep pool of talent and any five of her top nine boys would secure one of the Cook Inlet Conference’s four automatic team berths. “I could race any of them and we would go to state,” she said.

Mustangs run past Wolves

There were plenty of tearful hugs for Eagle River head football coach Jason Brewer following the Wolves homecoming game Saturday, Sept. 21. But coming up on the losing end of a 44-28 score to Chugiak wasn’t the reason. Brewer’s National Guard unit was called up earlier in the week and he left for training in Colorado about 12 hours after the Mustangs cruised to their seventh victory in the teams’ eight meetings. (Eagle River’s lone victory over Chugiak came via forfeit two years ago).

ER flaggers earn homecoming win over Chugiak

Chugiak and Eagle River’s first flag football meeting of the season took every second of the game to determine a winner. With no time left on the clock, Eagle River’s Maddie Corbett pulled Chugiak quarterback Alise Arnold’s flag deep inside Wolves territory to seal an 18-14 homecoming win for Eagle River on Saturday, Sept. 21.
