Two local students have been awarded $500 scholarships from P.E.O. Chapter Q of Chugiak. JoEllen Walters, a recent Chugiak High School graduate, will be attending UAA in the fall. Kelley Stevenson, of Eagle River, is a third year student at Biola University at La Mirada, Calif.
Kristen Burns, of Eagle River, has been named to the University of Alaska Anchorage Chancellor’s List for the Spring 2012 semester with a 4.0 GPA and was also accepted into the university’s nursing program.
Ashley Allen, of Eagle River, has been named to the President’s List at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. To earn placement on the list, students must earn a GPA of at least 3.7.
Tyler Belk and Angela Weiss, of Eagle River, were named to the Gonzaga University (Spokane, Wash.) Dean’s List for the Spring 2012 semester. To earn placement on the list, students must earn a 3.5 to 3.69 GPA.
Deanna Tolleson, of Eagle River, has been named to the Spring 2012 Honor’s List at Hiblert College in Hamburg, N.Y. To earn inclusion on the list, students must earn a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Aneliese Palmer, a 2008 graduate of Chugiak High, has graduated from Harvard with highest honors with a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion and a secondary in mind/brain behavior. Aneliese studied abroad in India and Ireland doing research for her honors thesis. At Harvard, she was a member of the Harvard Improv Comedy Team, a Director of the Harvard Square homeless shelter and a contributing author to a guide to improv comedy, “So You Think You’re Funny?” Aneliese will return to Ireland to work at the Simon House homeless shelter before continuing graduate studies. She is the daughter of Jim Palmer and Sheila Arkell of Eagle River.
Colin Palmer, a 2006 graduate of Chugiak High, graduated from Alaska Pacific University earning a B.A. in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in public policy and history. Colin, who has worked on local political campaigns as well as President Obama’s 2008 presidential election, plans to continue work in public policy and community based organizations in Alaska. He is the son of Jim Palmer and Sheila Arkell of Eagle River.
Three local students graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., in ceremonies held at Veterans’ Memorial Arena in Spokane, Wash.
Nicholas Walters, of Eagle River, was been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2012 semester at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. Walters is a pre business major. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must carry a semeter GPA of 3.4 or better and take a minimum of 12 semester credit hours.
