U.K. man raises money for Fisher House

A young man by the name of Ollie Plunket recently decided to take a seven-month motorcycle ride for charity. The mission of this 18-year-old from Buckingham, England, was to help military members and their families get the care and support they need overseas. He was raising money for the newly built Fisher House, the only one in the United Kingdom, which opened in June.

No injuries in Tuesday fire

No one was injured in a Chugiak house fire Tuesday, Aug. 6 that caused at least $300,000 in damages, according to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department. A combined 10 units from the CVFD and the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the blaze, said incident commander Clifton Dalton with the CVFD. The fire, which was called in by a neighbor at around 7:30 a.m., was under control within about 15 minutes, he said.

Eagle River cabin vandalized

A small cabin in Eagle River recently suffered some big time vandalism. When caretaker Tom Staudenmaire went to check on the cabin at the end of Domain Lane near St. Andrew Catholic Church, he found nearly all of its contents thrown outside. Boxes of paperwork littered the front yard. The stove and file cabinets were tossed down a nearby hill.
