Bible theft alleged

A bizarre attempted car theft ended with a 27-year-old Washington state man in jail after police established an eye-catching perimeter in Chugiak on Sunday, June 2. Anchorage police said they responded to a report of a disturbance that day at the Security Self Storage on the Old Glenn Highway in Chugiak.

The latest chapter in Eagle River’s history has been written by one of the town’s own. Zane Treesh, a 1988 Chugiak High grad who moved to Eagle River as a baby, recently completed Eagle River, a pictorial history that’s part of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series.

In a sure sign the team’s support is growing, many fans showed up to this year’s Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks home opener already wearing their team’s red, white and blue gear. House fire claims Chugiak home

A Birchwood home was destroyed by fire Friday, May 24 on Jayhawk Lane off Birchwood Loop. According to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department, a fire was reported at around 12:30 a.m. When crews arrived, an attached garage was fully engulfed in flames, said CVFD spokesman Jeff Hartley.

A persistent drizzle didn’t keep hundreds of people from enjoying the festive atmosphere Sunday, June 2 outside Eagle River’s newest downtown retailer. “Come on in!” said Walgreens District Manager Bruce Philipp during a gala grand opening for the company’s new pharmacy at the corner of the Old Glenn Highway and Eagle River Loop Road.
