The Knik major girls All-Star softball team recorded an dramatic 9-2 victory of Dimond-West on July 3, upending the previously unbeaten team, in action held at East Anchorage’s Nunaka Valley Fields.
The Eagle River Wolves American Legion baseball team sandwiched the Fourth of July with a pair of lopsided victories, both at the expense of West Anchorage Post 1, winning 15-2, Thursday, and 18-6, Saturday.
Karma struck a unique chord Monday night as the Tigers defeated the A’s in games played thousands of miles away. The Detroit Tigers, hosting the red-hot Oakland Athletics, got a grand slam homerun from Rajai Davis in the bottom of the ninth to post the spectacular 5-4 win.
Two-year Eagle River High basketball letter-winner Thomas Jones will be attending Everett Community College and playing ball for the Trojans. Playing ball since age three, and developing a love for the sport throughout the school years, Thomas played basketball in the Chugiak Youth Sports Association, on YMCA Comp teams and for the Eagle River Wolves C, JV and varsity teams.
The Knik Little League held tryouts for the end-of-season All-Star teams on June 16-17.
Congratulations on all of the Chugiak and Eagle River area runners who toughed out wet and windy conditions to compete in the Mayor’s Marathon Race day events on June 21. The marathon is a beast, especially after mile 20 (yeah, you know what I’m talking about). Anyone who conquers it, regardless of time, is a winner in our book.
