Chugiak house fire

A structure fire destroyed a Chugiak home on March 1. According to Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department public information officer David Eastman, the department was dispatched at 8:11 p.m. March 1 to a fire at 15419 Old Glenn Highway, after a passing motorist had observed smoke in the are Eight Chugiak Fire Department units responded.

Anchorage Man Convicted of Sexual Assault

Adam Kasgnoc of Anchorage was convicted by an Anchorage jury on Feb. 26 of sexually assaulting his then 20 year old daughter in his Spenard apartment in Anchorage. The jury also found him guilty of incest.

Snowmachiners rescued from Talkeetna Mountains

Airmen with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th, 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons rescued three snowmachiners stranded in the Talkeetna Mountains on Feb. 25. Four snowmachiners had set out for a ride in the Talkeetna Mountains when they became stuck, according to Lt. Col. John Morse, deputy director of the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center.

School bus accident

An SUV hit the backside of an Eagle River school bus on Feb. 25. The bus was transporting students home from school. According to Anchorage Police Department, an SUV-type vehicle hit the bus at approximately 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Domestic violence in Alaska

Each year the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) conducts a national survey of domestic violence programs throughout the United States. The National Census of Domestic Violence Services (Census) reveals that on the single date of Sept. 17, 2013, 18 domestic violence programs in Alaska served 618 victims in a 24-hour period.
