ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The families of two inmates who died in Alaska jails within a week of each other are looking for answers to questions they say are not being answered.

Walking & Rolling for Hope Community Resources

As we roll into spring, one of the Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions Club’s causes is Hope Community Resources, Inc. The Lions have a long history of supporting Hope’s Walk & Roll for Hope, which is scheduled for May 3 at the Delany Park Strip in Anchorage. Club members look forward each year to participating in the Walk. It is a chance for them to reconnect with Hope’s mission and the people who choose their supports. This year is no different; the club will be out in full force to support Hope.

April is sexual assault awareness month

At Heart to Heart Eagle River Crisis Pregnancy Center, which offers free pregnancy tests and pro-life oriented counseling, it’s not uncommon for executive director Alycia Thomas to be the first person a young woman tells that she might pregnant. Sometimes, Thomas ends up being the first person a teen opens up to, to confide that she’s been raped.

Senate committee releases its version of education bill

The Senate Finance Committee has released its long-awaited version of House Bill 278, Gov. Sean Parnell’s omnibus education bill. The legislation has already passed the House and is one of the priority issues to be resolved before the Legislature adjourns its 2014 session, currently scheduled for Easter Sunday, April 20.
