Glenn Highway commuters are urged to slow down or else pony up a traffic fine. Anchorage Police Department is ramping up enforcement along the Glenn Highway during morning commuter hours in efforts to enforce safe driving.

Local man and children rescued from Crow Pass

An Eagle River man and his two sons were rescued from Crow Pass Trail in the early morning hours of April 13. According to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch, Kathern Janes called Alaska State Troopers around 6:02 p.m. April 12 to report that her husband and two sons were overdue arriving at their arranged Girdwood pick-up point.

Fort Wainwright soldier charged in death of 3-year-old son

A soldier with the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, was charged on April 9 in the death of his 3-year-old son April 4 in the family’s on-post residence.

It was 42 degrees outside with a stiff wind, but already more than a half-dozen youth were grinding the rails last Sunday at the Eagle River skate park. But all of them were riding scooters. “Skateboarding’s still popular,” said Chugiak High School junior Joshua Macalino. “Out here, scootering’s been progressing.”

Brigadier General Catherine Jorgensen, director of the joint staff, Joint Forces Headquarters, Alaska Army National Guard, was inducted into the Anchorage Athena Society at a luncheon at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage, March 31.

The big topic at the March 26 Birchwood Community Council was Eklutna, Inc.’s presentation. Or more pointedly, their lack of presentation. According to council co-chair Jill F. Crosby, Eklutna, Inc. emailed in a cancelation to their presentation the day before the meeting, stating that they were in the process of requesting a postponement of their Anchorage Assembly hearing date on the master plan rezone until August or September.
