Anchorage Police Officers in the Special Assignment Unit completed a successful drug investigation resulting in a large seizure of illegal drugs and the arrests of two involved citizens early in the morning of March 21.
Anchorage Police Department made 20 driving under the influence arrests from March 14-March 18 during the Saint Patrick’s Day weekend. According to APD, five additional officers conducted DUI patrols each night during the weekend timeframe.
On March 17, a 42 year-old Wasilla man was convicted of sexually abusing one of his daughters over the course of several years. The defendant’s name is not being revealed to protect the identity of his victim daughter. The abuse began in 2008, when the victim was in third grade, and continued until 2011. At the time of the abuse, the defendant lived in Anchorage. The sexual abuse included multiple occasions of sexual penetration.
The Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department rescued a teen from the Thunderbird Falls area early in the evening of March 15. According to CVFD public information officer David Eastman, the department was dispatched to Thunderbird Falls at 5:45 p.m.
Anchorage Police Department K9 dog earned its kibble on March 10. That’s when Anchorage Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Kalmia Drive in Anchorage.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers have once again hit the trail, this time snowmachining more than 1,000 miles across Alaska in less than a week in an effort to prevent suicides. This year, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Darrell Hildebrand, Thomas Akelkok, and Jon Simeon planned an ambitious journey to reach adults and school children in eight villages in rural Alaska. Other troopers joined the expedition for sections of the trek as they wound their way from Manley Hot Springs to Nome and back. The trip launched on March 16 and troopers are expected to reach Nome on March 21. Ruby was the first school on the visit followed by schools in Unalakleet, Shaktoolik, Koyuk, Elim, Golovin, White Mountain, and Nome.
An Eagle River man died in a rollover accident early Tuesday morning, March 11. According to Anchorage Police Department, a call came in about a single vehicle rollover accident shortly after 7 a.m.
