Mirror Lake wins City Track Championship

The Mirror Lake Coyotes track and field team rode the wave of impressive relay team finishes to place first in the district-wide City Championships concluding May 8. The championships, the first time for athletes from all 11 schools to confront one another, was divided into three portions for running preliminaries, field championships and running finals at three different venues including the field finals, hosted by Mirror Lake.

The Eagle River Wolves varsity boys and girls squads collected non-league victories, reeling in the King Salmon of Ketchikan High, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively, in actions at Eagle River High Saturday.

Chugiak boys win, girls second in FroshSoph track meet

The Mustang boys team won the annual Frosh-Sop meet, held May 10, at South Anchorage High. The girls placed second. Mustang coach Melissa Hall said the victory was largely due in part to a sweep in the majority of the relays and to first-place performances by John Weaver, in the 400m; Dillon Pratt, the100m; and Roan Hall, the 3200m.

Eagle River relief pitcher Guido Gerali, a foreign-exchange student from Italy, pitched four inning of scoreless ball to help the Wolves to a 16-7 victory over Chugiak in action at Mulcahy Stadium Saturday.

Wolves roundup: Eagle River comes from behind to almost tie

It was the Dimond Lynx versus the Eagle River Wolves at Mulcahy Stadium Saturday afternoon for each team’s first league game of the high school baseball season. Dimond opened things up in the first inning, of the seven inning game, by scoring one run, followed by three quick successive outs. The Wolves answered with one run of their own during their first chance on offense, after Michael Rosenberg roped a double to left field, and then scored on double that RJ Dirscherl shot on his own to left field a moment later. The Lynx then gained momentum in the second inning and scored three more runs. Both sides were somewhat neutralized until the sixth inning when Dimond squeezed another run across the plate to bring the score to 5 - 1.

Softball roundup

With 11 games in two weeks, the Mustangs varsity softball team enters the second half of the season sporting a 8-3 win-loss record, reported head coach Jim Huber. After a near-perfect 5-1 record the first week, Chugiak fell to South, 4-1, on April 28, then 10-8, to West, April 30.

Track and field City Championships

Toting an undefeated regular season, Mirror Lake Middle School track coach Mitch Tarter is looking for much of the same as the Coyotes ready for the City Championships to be held Tuesday and Thursday this week. The track finals will be held at Goldenview Middle School today (Thursday), beginning at 3:45 p.m.

Runners excel at Anchorage Invite Track Meet

The Chugiak boys and girls track teams make good showings during a showcase meet held at Dimond High Friday and Saturday. The venue provided athletes an opportunity to race on the same track used for this season’s Region and State events, to be held May 15-16 and May 23-24, respectively.
