Angela Marie (Miles) Houston, 49, of Eagle River, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on Feb. 3, 2014 in Hilo, Hawaii, while assisting her mother with medical treatments.
Chugiak resident John R. (J.R.) Vincent, 44, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Feb. 26th, 2014. A memorial service will be held March 8 at Eagle River Funeral Home. Eagle River Lodge #13 of the Free and Accepted Masons will perform the memorial service, which will be followed by a reception offered by Marrian Halstead and Cha Mai unit of the Ladies Oriental Shrine.
James J. Sutton of Eagle River passed away Tuesday morning, February 18, 2014 at Prestige Care of natural causes. Services will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Internment at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery, alongside his wife, will be held at a later date.
Former Eagle River resident Eileen “Nana” Metcalf died Jan. 29, 2014. She was 90. She was living in Bend, Ore., where she recently moved to be close to her family, which she cherished more than anything. A memorial service was held in Bend, Ore., on February 8, and Metcalf will be buried at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage this spring next to her beloved son, Edward.
Bonnie Jeanne McGrew died Jan. 19, 2014, after a brief admittance to Alaska Native Medical Center. She was 63. McGrew was born June 24, 1950, in Wenatchee, Wash., and moved with her family to Alaska in 1961. She was a 1968 graduate of Chugiak High.
Longtime Eagle River resident Beverly Jean Smoot died Jan. 20, 2014, while admitted to Alaska Regional Hospital. She was 73. Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Legacy Funeral Homes Witzleben Chapel in Anchorage. Burial took place at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery thereafter.
John Robert (Bob) Yeargan died Jan. 15, 2014, of natural causes in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pam Yeargan, in Eagle River surrounded by many family members. He was 93.
Joanne Sheerin died peacefully at home in Harlingen, Texas, on Dec. 22, 2013. She was 70. Sheerin was born Aug. 1, 1943, in Springfield, Ill. She came to Alaska in 1979 with her husband, John, and their children, Wade and Candice, settling in Chugiak, where they made lifelong friends.
Aline Elizabeth Rusnak died Jan. 1, 2014, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage. She was 87. A funeral mass was held January 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla with father Scott Garrett officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery sometime in late spring.
