Eagle River’s Geoffrey Woods, 15, won the U.S. Western Region Irish Dance competition for boys age 15 in Bellevue, Wash., on Saturday, Nov. 17. He qualified for both the North American and World Irish Dance Championships. Woods will also represent Alaska and the U.S. at the World Championships in Boston the last week of March, 2013. Woods, a sophomore at Chugiak High, is in his eighth year with the Irish Dance Academy of Alaska under the direction of Noreen Wescott. The Western Region is comprised of dancers from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, California, Nevada and New Mexico. Woods is the son of Nathan and Sandra Woods of Eagle River.
