Kate I. MulcahyNavy Seaman Apprentice Kate I. Mulcahy, of Chugiak, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Mulcahy completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations,” which gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Mulcahy is a 2010 graduate of Chugiak High and the daughter of Deborah and Peter Mulcahy of Chugiak. |

Sean N. HampSean N. Hamp a lifelong resident of Birchwood/Eagle River, graduated on July 13 as a U.S. Marine Pvt. First Class in the 1st Battalion, Alpha Company 1010 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif. On July 4, Hamp received his Eagle, Globe and Anchor. During basic training, Hamp earned the “crossed rifles” badge as an Expert Rifleman. Hamp graduated from Chugiak High in 2011, where he was a member of the school’s NJROTC program. He is the son of John and Samie Hamp of Eagle River. |

Patrick J. EversonPatrick J. Everson, a 2008 graduate of Chugiak High School, recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Everson received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. |
