Amy Demboski will likely be Chugiak-Eagle River’s next Anchorage Assemblywoman. With all but early and absentee votes counted early Wednesday, April 3, Demboski unofficially led Pete Mulcahy by 348 votes.

Let me start my first column entry by introducing myself. My name is Sivesh Sangar and I am an exchange student from Malaysia. I am under the Kennedy- Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES). I am on a semester program which lasts for 6 months. I will be in Alaska till the end of June. I am hosted in Eagle River and I am a senior at Chugiak High School.

A pilot from Eagle River has reached new heights in his career with the U.S. Air Force. Lt. Col. Rob “Grinch” Finch is commander of the 430th Expeditionary Electronic Combat Squadron, which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2009.
The Chugiak/Birchwood/Eagle River Rural Road Service Area Board has several questions about part of a $2.6 million area wide general obligation bond that will be presented to voters April 2.

Education funding was a hot topic March 23 during a Town Hall meeting featuring local State House representatives Lora Reinbold and Dan Saddler. About a dozen teachers from Eagle River High turned out to make their case for state funding of education, which they argued hasn’t kept up with schools’ needs.
